NOTD: Ladybirds

Posts have been rather sparse this week, as I have been commuting 4hrs a day for a training course, and wasn't organised enough to schedule some half decent posts. Next week I'm at a conference too so who knows what state this blog will be in by next week! Anyway for now here's another NOTD:

I've been running out of ideas for nails, but these cute ladybirds didn't take long and will do as a stop-gap until I get some creative inspiration

Recent wardrobe additions featuring Mulberry Alexa 'dupe'

My mum's had a Matalan card for as long as I can remember, but I do find it to be so hit and miss. Think it's because in my mind I view it as a shop like Primark, but it's a bit more expensive and sometimes the quality can let it down. However, I went in recently and was very pleasantly surprised and picked up the following bits:

Daisy print wrap dress: £16
I love the style of this dress (wrap dresses are so flattering), and though the print is a bit summer 2013, I always like a good daisy print. The quality of this is good, it fits nicely and it's not ridiculously short. I'm looking forward to wearing this in summer with red lipstick and hair in victory rolls for a 40s vibe

Alexa style satchel: £15
This picture doesn't actually do this bag justice. I LOVE IT. It is such a good size, it looks a lot more expensive than it is and will fill the Alexa shaped gap in my wardrobe whilst I save for the real deal

Scalloped Hem Shorts : £7
These were in the sale for £7 which I thought was great, again as the quality is a lot better than I expected. I was also delighted to find a pair of shorts that don't show off half your arse cheek, as I am seriously finding it difficult to find any shorts on the high street that are not hot pants or 'knicker' shorts. It winds me right up!

Pin-Spiration #2: Hair

all images found on Pinterest

I'm stuck in a bit of a hair rut. I used to change it up a lot but have stuck with mid length blonde-ish hair for a while now (trying to grow it long with little success). Here's some hair I've been coveting on pinterest (can you tell I'm having a bit of a thing about victory rolls at the moment?)

Healthy living continued...week one of the 5:2 diet

So I recently posted about my desire to get healthy. I feel a lot more committed this time, as it's not just about losing the 7lbs I've put on in the last couple of months. It's about all the other benefits of healthy eating and exercise; I want to be able to run for a train without feeling like I'm going to collapse, I want to clear up my skin and have a sparkle in my eyes, I want to go to bed and drift off to sleep with ease rather than tossing and turning and lying there frustrated. However, the 7lbs coming off is the focus for January, as my birthday is in February!

To kick start my healthy plan, for the next few weeks I'll be following the 5:2 diet. For those of you who don't know, it means restricting your calories to 500 calories for 2 days of the week, and eating normally the other 5 days. And before you think, 'ooh, your body will go into starvation mode and you'll just put on weight', watch Michael Moseley's documentary on the diet. The health benefits of intermittent fasting are truly fascinating, let alone the weight loss benefits. And though 500 calories sounds like nothing, if you make the right food choices you'd be surprised the amount you can eat

Here is my diet plan for week one; I've only factored in the 'working week', as I don't know what my weekend plans are yet!

I probably won't plan my meals to this extent every week (life's far too short), but when starting a new regime I think for the first week you have to be super organised so you have no reason (or excuse) to fall off the wagon

NOTD: Black tips

I've started running out of ideas for nail art. So, whilst I try to find some inspiration, and whilst my nails are of a decent length, I decided to go for a really simple look; french manicure style but with a gothic edge.

I used a standard black nail art pen over Barry M's 'Nude'. I really like the simplicity of this look, though Barry M Nude is so sheer I had to use 3 coats before it even showed on my nails!

Pin-Spiration #1: Healthy living

After experiencing a degree of post-xmas fatness, I went on a bit of a pinning sesh planning my healthy start to 2014. I'm sick of not liking what I see in the mirror, and more sick of hearing myself moan whilst full-well knowing I don't do enough to look how I'd like to. So below is a selection of images pinned onto my 'fitspo/health' board recently while my motivation is at it's peak! After the masses of food at Christmas I'm actually looking forward to eating cleaner and feeling less squidgy.

We'll see how long it lasts this time around...

Wednesday Wishlist #1 : Boots

Here's a selection of the boots I've been coveting recently, all really reasonably priced from Boohoo or Missguided. I'm struggling to restrain myself, but as I wear boots 90% of the time, even in summer, perhaps that can justify a purchase?
